December Activities at Avon Park

What have our residents been up to in December?

As you’d expect, we had lots of festive-filled activities going on, lots of celebrations and lots of family-fun to ensure that our care home felt as homely as possible to our residents over the festive period.

Seasonal Activities

At the start of the month, we made sure that the whole home was well decorated to get the residents in to the festive spirit!

We also organised lots of trips out to the local shops and garden centres so that residents could get their Christmas shopping done and get to enjoy the local Christmas decorations – they even got to feed a real reindeer at the garden centre!

On the 12th December we got to paint and decorate our own baubles that were then displayed proudly on the Christmas tree for all visitors to see.

The biggest event of the month was our annual Christmas party, a date that’s always looked forward to by all staff, visitors and residents! It’s a great chance to mingle, enjoy some good food and celebrate the Christmas season.

We rounded the month off with a all-inclusive Christmas dinner on Christmas day which was greatly enjoyed by everyone and a lovely way to spend the day together. We particularly at this time want to thank all our hard-working and dedicated team members who worked over the festive period.

Entertainment and Musical Interludes

We had some great musicians in this month including Barry and his Banjos, Harpists, Sasha and Yazmin, the talented Scarlett from Brookfield School and Elvis-tribute, Delvis – who was greatly enjoyed by all staff and residents!

We also had the pleasure of welcoming Duncan Road Church in today to bless us with their Christmas carol service. Lots of beautiful carols were sung by all!

Our residents also enjoyed lots of dance parties with some old tunes to get them all dancing and clapping, and some singing!

Games and Quizzes

To keep minds sharp and active, we included lots of games and quizzes in our activity timetable including bingo, a Christmas quiz and pass the parcel!

Birthdays

We always like to make our residents feel special, and their birthdays are the perfect excuse! This month we threw a party for Sonia who celebrated her 90th Birthday.

Alongside those we also enjoyed some pampering with residents having had the chance to get their nails done, ready to sparkle for Christmas!
