 Elderly Respite Care

Short Term Temporary Care

What is respite care?

Elderly respite care is used to provide short-term alleviation for primary caregivers. Short term care offers a temporary solution for a variety of issues. If a loved one has recently had an operation or serious illness, a dedicated carer can provide extra personal care. Or maybe it's time for a respite holiday - we know how hard caring for an elderly relative can be.

Respite care FAQs

  • When is respite care required?

Respite care is typically required to provide a much-needed break from caring for someone, whether planning on taking some time off to go on holiday or providing some short-term relief. A respite care home offers a safe, comfortable, and short-term option for your loved ones.

Additionally, if an elderly family member or friend has recently undergone surgery and requires post-operative care and some extra help, respite care can be a good option. Our staff members are highly-trained and deliver personalised care to all guests, whether they’re long-term or short-stay.

  • What are the benefits of temporary respite care?

It is not uncommon for carers to report a feeling of guilt when they wish to take a break or go on holiday, leaving behind a loved one who needs care. However, elderly respite care offers the perfect solution, ensuring short-term care in a safe, dignified, and compassionate place to stay, allowing carers to get some much-needed rest and return feeling revitalised and refreshed.

Moreover, staying in a care home for a short time can be a very enjoyable and enriching experience for a loved one, allowing time to have fun, make new friends, and try out some new activities. We have regular entertainment, activities, and outings, working within the local community to create a fun stay.

  • How much is short term care and what does the cost cover?

Our respite care costs vary depending on the type of care needed. A financial assessment will depend on your accommodation choice and the length of the stay. To arrange a visit at Avon Park Care Home and discuss respite care fees, please call us on 01489 574616.

  • Who can qualify for respite care?

Respite care facilities are available for privately funded residents or social service users, with a top-up. Please contact the Avon Park team to discuss your options and get more information on our elderly respite care services.

  • Is respite care in Southampton always available?

The availability of our respite care can vary throughout the year, so it’s best to contact the care home well in advance and discuss whether there is space to accommodate your loved one, the type of care they will need, and the length of their stay.

Guests are welcome to stay more than once per year if space is available.

  • Can friends and family visit care guests?

Yes, all friends and family are welcome to visit at any time during a resident's stay.

We encourage all guests to have regular contact and visits with their loved ones to provide added socialisation and interaction. Many of our guests’ families enjoy taking part in our fun activities, attending our meal times, and joining us on outings.

  • What will guests need to bring with them?
