What Do Residential Care Homes Provide?

PAR003_OE • Oct 25, 2021
A residential care home provides 24/7 support, safety, and security to the elderly that may otherwise struggle with everyday tasks at home. Residential care can also be a much-needed source of hope, companionship, dignity, and comfort to older residents feeling lonely or isolated.

In the wake of the recent Covid-19 pandemic, 1 in 3 elderly people across the UK report feelings of loneliness, depression, or anxiety every day. Worryingly, 28% of over-70’s and 38% of over-75’s live alone and do not leave their home at any time. It’s sad but easy to see that residential care is more vital than ever before.

It’s understandable if you or a loved one have reservations about moving into residential care. At Avon Park Residential Home, we provide a comfortable, compassionate, and caring environment for the elderly. Here we’ll talk you through some of the most critical aspects of our facilities.

Dignity, Privacy, And Choice
When people feel that their individual identity and value as a human is not recognised or respected, it has a massively negative impact on their ability to enjoy life and live comfortably. A persons dignity shouldn’t be dismissed or ignored just because that person has gotten older and may need extra help with some tasks.

At Avon Park Residential Home, our residents’ dignity is of paramount importance. We recognise that everybody who lives under our roof has the right to have their self-respect, capacities, and ambitions supported, with nothing done to undermine this.

A crucial part of honouring our residents’ dignity is allowing them the freedom to choose how they live their day-to-day lives. Our residents can choose when they get up and go to bed and when and where they eat. They can bring personal possessions with them, and we enable and help our residents to handle any of their own financial matters, as long as they wish to do so.

Privacy is also fundamental in maintaining dignity. We do everything we can to ensure our residents feel that nobody will intrude in their personal spaces, that their relationships are respected, and that their information is kept confidential and secure. Additionally, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, our residents have the freedom to access any personal records that we may store.

Social Visits
As we’ve already discussed, the number of older people who feel lonely or isolated is increasing. That’s why we actively encourage visits from family and friends at Avon Park Residential Home. There are no restrictions on the time or length of visits, so our residents can benefit when it best suits them, not according to a timetable.

Furthermore, we understand just how important remembering and celebrating special occasions can be to our residents’ ongoing happiness. Friends and family are always welcome to join these events, and our private lounge is free of charge to be booked for any such occasion.

Resident Fulfilment
Activity helps to sustain both physical and mental health. It’s not always as easy for the elderly to keep physically active or stimulate the brain through reading or conversation. With this in mind, the elderly must be allowed to maintain interests and hobbies whilst also developing new ones.

At Avon Park Residential Home, we run a diverse and frequently updated programme of social and cultural activities and encourage our residents to get involved with any number of events and activities they are interested in or enjoy most. We aim to improve mental well-being among our residents, adding or enhancing a sense of purpose and structure to their lives.

We also respect and understand that not everybody may want to get involved in such activities at any given time and ultimately respect the wishes of residents who do not wish to participate.

Assisted Living
At Avon Park Residential Home, we provide the highest possible standards of assisted living and personal care. Our in-house staff are fully trained in the UK, caring, professional, friendly, empathetic, and respectful.

Our assisted living is perfect for those elderly that are, for the most part, able to look after themselves, value their dignity and independence, but need some extra help with everyday tasks like taking medication, washing, dressing, personal grooming, or toileting.

Each of our residents is assigned their own personal care assistant, so they’re treated as an individual and given the comfort of a regular schedule. This also gives them the opportunity to build a strong rapport and bond with somebody they can see on a regular basis.

When it comes to mealtimes, we don’t hurry or rush our residents and do everything to make them relaxed and enjoyable. They are free to decide when and where they’d like to eat, with three full and nutritious meals per day.

At Avon Park Care Home, we welcome all of our new residents with care and compassion so that they can look forward to enjoying a fulfilling life in our safe, secure, and peaceful facilities.
